Business Growth Initiative

For the second year, WIBA has partnered with the City of Wichita to stimulate and promote business growth in the Wichita metropolitan area. The WIBA Business Growth Initiative supports business expansion and development by establishing strong relationships with small businesses. WIBA will assist in identifying and addressing barriers of growth in order to create a healthy and inviting business environment.

 Objectives for this year:
  • Facilitate the creation of 50 net new jobs and assist in the fulfillment of open positions for business participants.
  • Provide at least 75 individuals access to open positions by participating businesses.  Provide job training requested by businesses for at least 30 individuals through scholarship funding of $25,000.
  • Work with all participating businesses to identify current or potential barriers and provide requested assistance; connecting them with other strategic partner firms/agencies as appropriate.
  • Provide a small business voice in discussions with GWP and City Officials to address policies and infrastructure that directly impact future growth
Business topics/issues that we can help with include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Business Plan/Marketing Plan Development
  • Financial/Accounting Assistance
  • Securing additional capital
  • Assistance with building expansion
  • Sourcing and hiring employees
  • Employee Benefit Plan development

In partnership with Workforce Alliance, WIBA will be a sponsor for the “Get HIRED!”  job fair on September 7th.


The job fair will be a partnership among multiple companies to provide job opportunities to the general public and the military. It will be held on September 7, 2017 at Intrust Bank Arena. For the military, the event will start at 3pm and end at 5pm. For the public, the event will start at 5pm and end at 7pm. For more information visit or call the WIBA office at 316-201-3264.


In 2016, WIBA accomplished:
  • Personal contact with over 200 businesses by providing assistance in many areas including business coaching and securing finances
  • Over 150 new job placements with 35 pending placements. Wages ranged from $25,000 to $48,000.
  • Two job fairs in collaboration with Workforce Alliance that had over 418 Job seekers, 41 Participating businesses and 20 Placements.
  • $50,000 in scholarships and internships to Wichita Area Technical School, Cowley County Community College, Butler County Community College, Greater Wichita Ministerial League and NexStep Alliance/Goodwill
  • Created and developed marketing material, utilized social media, radio, TV, and publications to expand our outreach to the community and region
  • Exceeded our commitment in 2016 by over 60%
