WIBA and Exploration Place celebrate partnership at Brooks Middle School – March 22, 2018
Wichita, Kan. — On March 30, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., the Wichita Independent Business Association (WIBA) and Exploration Place will be hosting a media day at Brooks Middle Magnet School.
WIBA and Exploration Place have partnered to provide science education classes to the 6th grade Science class at Brooks Middle Magnet School during the spring semester. Exploration Place’s science classes are aligned with the 6th-grade curriculum pacing. Classroom teachers remain in the classroom and work alongside the Exploration Place educator. A WIBA member also volunteers to come in and give an example of a real-life application to the science topic of the day.
We would like to invite you to see this program in action on March 30, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Brooks Middle Magnet School, located at 3802 E 27th St N, Wichita, KS 67220. WIBA member, Kurt Yowell, Director of Business Development at MKEC Engineering will speak to the class to introduce “Gravity and mass exploration.”
The standards for science education in the classroom have changed. Students are expected todo science instead of developing a rote scientific knowledge. Research supports the role of informal science learning methodology as effective in inspiring students in STEM subjects.
The partnership is funded from a donation by Phil Ruffin to WIBA with the goal of fostering student success in school and beyond.
